Šibenik is the oldest Croatian town on the Adriatic coast . It is also called Krešimir’s city , because the seat of the most important ruler of the ancient Croatian state King Petar Kresimir IV, the writings of the 1066th year . Šibenik was first mentioned as a city .
It is situated in a large bay at the mouth of the river Krka . It was founded as an old Croatian fort near Fort St. . Michael, which still dominates the town . Besides St . Michael, the city is surrounded by three fortresses: St. . Nicholas , Saint . John and Šubičevac .

Šibenik’s Cathedral of St. . Jacob is the most famous buildings in Sibenik . It was built over a hundred years after the sketches of the famous Zadar builder George Dalmatian . It was built of stone , without the use of any other material , is bold , unique design , unusual for that time .
